東大制作展Extraの展示会場であった情報学環オープンスタジオは壁厚が1.5m程度あり、「窓空間」とも呼べるような窓枠が設置されている。その窓空間を室内に延長するように、窓枠にサイズと位置を合わせたオーガンジー布を7枚450mm間隔で連続して吊るした作品。
空間は、単にかたく静的で単一な建築の内側の空隙ではなく、もっと柔らかく蠢き多義的で、その輪郭は建築から剥離しているのではないか。そのような「空間」というものを鑑賞対象にしたいと、「空間の水槽」を作るイメージで制作した。
The walls of the Open Studio, iii UTokyo, which was the exhibition site for the iii Exhibition Extra, are about 1.5 meters thick, and there is a space in front of the window that could be called a "window space". As if to extend the window space into the room, seven pieces of organdie fabric, matching in size and position to the window frame, were hung consecutively at intervals of 450mm.
Space is not merely a void inside the stiff, static, single architecture, but is softer, more wriggling, more multifaceted, and its contours may be detached from the architecture. We created this work with the intention of creating an "aquarium of space" in order to make such "space" an object of appreciation.
